There are now just weeks to go until the Northumberland Plate Festival at Newcastle Racecourse in Gosforth. Just a five minute drive from Burradon Farm, there’s still plenty of time to get in on the racing action!
Northumberland Plate Festival is the most famous race meeting of the year at Newcastle Racecourse. The Festival concludes with Plate Day on 27th June 2020. Plate Day attracts a diverse crowd of racegoers all looking for a great day out. Many ladies treat it as the North-East’s version of Royal Ascot, but with a more relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Day 1 features the competitive and valuable Class 2 Race – the Seaton Delaval Handicap Stakes. The race is named after both a local village and a horse by the same name, who was victorious 1893.
Day 2 continues with the Gosforth Park Cup Night. This features a host of competitive races, including the blistering quick Gosforth Park Cup and the Group 3 Hopping Stakes. This race for top class fillies celebrated its 20 year anniversary in 2019.
Day 3 concludes with the famous Northumberland Plate Day. The two mile heritage handicap is worth £150,000, making it the richest two mile handicap in Europe. The racing card also includes the Chipchase Stakes, a Group 3, six furlong sprint.
