Why not try this lovely coastal walk during your stay at Burradon Farm? Perfect all year round with amazing views and great coffee stops along the way – your dog will love it too!
Park at Old Hartley Car Park at Seaton Sluice (NE26 4RB), just 10 minutes drive from Burradon Farm. Follow the clifftop path and enjoy fantastic views out to sea and of St Mary’s Island and Lighthouse along the way.
Take in St Mary’s Island grassland Nature Reserve as you pass by, or take a detour onto St Mary’s Island. Climb the lighthouse, pop into the visitor centre, or spot basking seals. It’s a perfect place for rockpooling too but make sure you check the causeway tides before crossing!
Keep walking towards Whitley Bay – if the tide is out you can take the steps down to the beautiful beach. If not, you can carry on along the cliff top on the marked pathways.
Search for sea glass or pretty stones on the beach or watch the hardy North Sea swimmers all year round! There’s also some super rockpools to explore when the tide is out (we found a lobster there many moons ago).
Halfway along the beach head up to the promenade where you will find an old Vera haunt, the iconic Rendezvous Café. Or try one of our favourites, the Links Art Gallery, just behind facing the car park. It serves great Italian coffee and displays the work of local artists – well worth a visit. There are newly refurbished toilets here too.
Heading further south along the promenade or beach the kids might enjoy a visit to the skatepark or De-Mio’s icecream shack (great coffees too).
You’ve now reached the end of the beach and time to head up to see the Spanish City in all its glory. Definitely worth a visit to Valerie’s tearoom where you can sit inside, or outside with your dog. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and the cakes are delicious!
Or why not try the Split Chimp Ale House on the plaza or one of the many fish and chip shops. The kids will also love the amusement arcades opposite the Spanish City and there’s plenty of great icecream options too.
It’s a lovely walk around 45 – 60 minutes each way, without stops. A perfect coastal walk for all of the family!
