Introduction
Everyone is welcome at Burradon Farm, so please let us know if there is any more that we can do to make your stay a pleasant one. Below are features common to all of our properties that make for easier accessibility, then each cottage and house is examined in more detail. General Site Access
Designated drop off and level parking areas, close to all houses and cottages, to make your stay a pleasant one. Car parking areas are well lit and each house and cottage has a movement sensitive light outside back and front doors.
Pathways are either flat or gently sloped from the car park to the front door of the property. Each property has a 120mm-150mm step into the house or cottage (apart from Swallow Cottage which has level access).
Cottages are all on one level with predominantly laminate flooring for ease of movement. Houses are two storey.
Floor rugs can be removed on request.
Assistance dogs welcomed.
Reliable mobile phone coverage and excellent WIFI internet access.
Easy access to lawns and gardens where chairs and tables are provided.
Swallow Cottage Access
Swallow Cottage has been specifically constructed with disabled guests in mind, and has been assessed by AccessAble / Visit England as meeting the National Accessible Scheme for Mobility. Please click on the link below for the full access guide for Swallow Cottage including photographs.
Wheatlands Cottage Access
Tiled entrance hall leads to open plan living/dining/outside raised patio area in Wheatlands Cottage. There is space for wheelchairs to manoeuvre comfortably.
All the bedrooms are sufficiently spacious to allow wheelchair transfer into bed and disabled guests have the choice of a single bed or a super kingsize bed.
Bedrooms have fitted wardrobes with adjustable hanging rails, dressing tables and chairs.
Lighting levels are bright, with accessible light switches and sockets.
The en suite bathroom in Wheatlands Cottage is very spacious with a separate bath with grab rails and a large wet-room area with wheelchair access.
Wheatlands Cottage has a raised thresh to access the sun room – an internal ramp is provided for wheelchair users to cross this thresh.
Wheatlands Cottage has a level garden area at the front and a ramp to access the front door. Wheelchair users can access the raised patio area to the rear of the property via the kitchen or sun room, however there are two steps down to the enclosed rear garden.
Rose Cottage and Honeysuckle Cottage Access
Both are single storey cottages with some tiled and some carpeted floors.
One step to front door access and two steps at the back door.
Living rooms and bedrooms are spacious but more limited space in the bathroom and galley kitchens.
Standard door sizes, but right hand bends into kitchen and bathroom.
Rose Cottage has a separate shower cubicle with step up into the shower tray.
Honeysuckle Cottage has a separate shower cubicle with a small lip to access the shower tray. It is not suitable for wheelchair access.
Traditional arched full length living room windows open out onto paved patio area with one step down into walled garden.
Maltpool and Buttermilk Cottage Access
Sloped paved pathway to cottage door.
Laminate floors throughout, all on one level.
30″ door space for easy access.
Generously proportioned rooms with more than adequate space for turning a wheelchair.
Separate shower cubicle with standard sized step up into shower.
One low step to access the front of the cottage, however three deeper steps at the rear of the property if using the back door.
Buttermilk Cottage has a breakfast bar with high stools.
Forge and Pele Cottages Access
Forge Cottage has 2 long shallow steps in the pathway leading to the front door and two steps to access the back garden/back door.
For Pele Cottage, a car can be parked immediately outside the front door.
Pele Cottage has some tiled and some carpeted floors, all on one level.
Forge Cottage has some laminate and some carpeted floors, all on one level.
Standard door sizes in both cottages, but overall Forge Cottage has easier access to each room.
Both cottages have separate shower cubicle with standard sized step up into shower.
Pele Cottage has an enclosed cottage garden to the rear which is accessed by a step down to a wide ramp leading to a cobbled patio area. There is a grassed area beyond the cobbles.
Jacobswell, Haselor, Chaff and Briarhill Houses and The Farm Cottages Access
All are 2 storey buildings with a staircase and no lift.
Jacobswell, Haselor, Chaff and Briarhill all have bedrooms upstairs and all have a downstairs WC.
Briarhill House has a double bedroom ensuite (bath with overhead shower) on the ground floor – this is ideal for families or groups where there is a less able member. There are 3 steps to access the downstairs living/dining area.
The Farm Cottages only have a downstairs bathroom (bath with overhead shower).
All have spacious living, dining and kitchen areas.
